Angel Hair For Kids –  A program of a Child’s Voice Foundation that provides wigs/hair solutions for children in Canada who suffer from hair loss caused by medical illness or treatments.

  • Began in 2004
  • Recipients: Canadian residents
  • Minimum hair donation length: 12 inches
  • Slightly treated hair is acceptable; slightly gray hair also acceptable
  • Does not charge families for wigs
  • Wig manufacturing costs: $800-$1000 (hair kit included)

Angel Hair Foundation – Non-profit organization in that provides “Angel Hair Systems” (high quality cranial prosthesis) for children who suffer from medical illness or treatments in Oregon.

  • Founded in 2007
  • Recipients: Oregon residents
  • Minimum hair donation length: 8 inches
  • Non chemically treated hair preferred but any hair in good condition is accepted; gray hair accepted
  • Does not charge families for prosthetic
  • Hair system manufacturing costs: $2,400-$2,600 (hair kit included)

Children with Hair Loss Foundation –  Non-profit organization that provides customized human hair replacement systems for children who suffer from medical illness and disorders.

  • Founded in 2000
  • Recipients: International
  • Minimum hair donation length: 8 inches
  • Non-chemically treated hair is preferred but any hair in good condition is accepted; gray hair accepted
  • Does not charge families for hair replacement systems
  • Hair replacement system manufacturing costs: $5000 (hair kit included until child turns 21)

Locks of Love – Non-profit organization that provides wigs for children under 21 suffering from long-term hair loss from any medical diagnosis.

  • Founded in 1997
  • Recipients: Under 21 from United States & Canada
  • Minimum hair donation length: 10 inches
  • Colored/permed hair is acceptable (colored hair not accepted if it is colored over bleached hair); gray & short hair will be accepted and sold to offset manufacturing costs.
  • Families are charged based on income (how much they can provide)
  • Wig manufacturing costs: $1,000
  • Side note: Children suffering from short-term hair loss (or under 6 years old) receive synthetic hairpieces.

Pantene Beautiful Lengths – Program created by Pantene in partnership with the American Cancer Society to create and provide wigs for women that have lost their hair from  cancer treatments.

  • Founded in 2006
  • Recipients: Women battling cancer in the United States
  • Minimum hair donation length: 8 inches
  • Hair that is colored with vegetable dyes, rinses and semi-permanent dyes is accepted. (cannot be chemically treated, bleached or permanently dyed); Less than 5% gray hair is accepted.
  • Wigs can be obtained for free by the American Cancer Society wig bank.
  • Wig manufacturing costs: unknown

Wigs 4 Kids – Non-profit organization that provides wigs and services to children and young adults that suffer from hair loss due to medical conditions and disorders.

  • Founded in 2005
  • Recipients: 3-18 year old Michigan residents
  • Minimum hair donation length: 10 inches
  • Hair cannot be chemically treated; less than 10% gray hair
  • Does not charge families for wigs
  • Wig manufacturing costs: unknown (hair care kit included)

Wigs for Kids – Non-profit organization that provides custom all-natural wigs/hair replacement systems for children suffering hair loss caused by medical conditions or treatments.

  • Founded in 1981
  • Recipients: United States and internationally
  • Minimum hair donation length: 12 inches
  • Temporary coloring or highlights that wash out are acceptable ( no chemically processed hair)
  • Does not charge families for wigs
  • Wig manufacturing costs: $1,800 (hair kit included)
